Veramonte Primus 1999

Valle de Casablanca, Region de Aconcagua, ChileThe best Primus yet and obviously one that benefits from the superior and very dry 1999 vintage. Unlike previous version this Primus boast ripe fruit but it remains unique almost icon-like in its styling for owner Agustin Huneeus and winemaker Raphael Tirado. Primus is focused on carménère (60 per cent), with an additional 30/10 split of cabernet sauvignon and merlot. In '99 the carménère was ripe and it makes all the difference in the flavour and supple round character of this wine. While it's not super premium it represents fine value at under $30.Tasted: 01 May 2002Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:
