Rodney Strong Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander's Crown 1997
Alexander Valley, Sonoma County, California, United StatesRising a couple hundred feet above Alexander Valley, the 77-acre "Crown" was one of California's first vineyard designated wines following the 1974 harvest. The Crown is all cabernet sauvignon except for 6 acres of merlot and 5 acres of cabernet franc. Winemaker Rick Sayre calls it the 'little' vineyard because it gets a little more sun, produces a little less crop, takes a little longer to ripen and has a little more acidity. A near perfect growing season in 1997 produced one of the biggest Alexander's Crown cabs in years. The 24th edition is a blend of 82/12/6 cabernet sauvignon, merlot and for the first time cabernet franc. The nose is warm, open and inviting with dusty blackberry fruit and spicy, mocha coffee fruit. A generous red wine that is easy to like.Tasted: 01 March 2000Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:BC | $45.95 | 750ml |
