Torres Mas La Plana (Gran Coronas Grand Reserva Black Label) 1995
Penedès, Catalunya (Catalonia Cataluña), SpainBlack Label began in the 50s while Mas La Plana (the house on the plain) started in 1965 when Miguel Torres planted Cabernet Sauvignon at Penedès. Today the 30 to 50 year-old vines make a splendid 100-percent Cabernet Sauvignon that gets 18 months ageing in new French oak followed by two to three extra years ageing in bottle. Lots of cassis and mocha aromas make it inviting on the nose, as does a dusting of pepper. Elegant already with smooth supple tannins fun to drink now but will keep for another decade.
