Energy, enthusiasm and excitement - three key elements Wine Australia expect to see with the appointment of a new Market Development Manager - Canada.

Based in Toronto, Mr Geoff McFadzean has been appointed in this leadership role, bringing national business and marketing skills to complement the existing team and support the Australian wine sector's continued investment in one of its key export markets. "Canada remains Australia's third largest export market and we see a need for ongoing commitment not only in the provinces of Ontario, Quebec and British Columbia, but also to extend our reach in building a more coordinated national platform," said Lucy Anderson, Manager International Marketing and Communications, AWBC. "Geoff's appointment will see the strengthening of ties within the whole supply chain, from the producers in Australia, through to the agent community and Liquor Board executives in market, and ultimately onto the consumers."

Formerly working as a National Account Director for a global wine brand, Mr McFadzean's market experience will bring added insight to Wine Australia's strategic planning and delivery of key program activities including this year's Ontario restaurant promotion, a national trade education program based on regionality and a consumer e-marketing campaign. Excited about his appointment, McFadzean said "The Australian story has been well told to date but there is definitely now an opportunity to introduce a new chapter. To be part of that challenge, and to work with the group of exporters currently involved in the Canadian market, will ensure that as the market develops, so Wine Australia will evolve and grow. It's an exciting time and one that demands an innovative new approach to category management and positioning."

Mr McFadzean will commence his employment with Wine Australia on Thursday 21 August 2008, joining Shelley Hamer-Jackson and Marnie Williamson who will report into Geoff on Western and Eastern Canada activities respectively.
