Calgary, AB - Wine Access magazine is thrilled to announce their 2009 Canadian Wine Awards Winery of the Year is British Columbia's Sandhill Winery.

Each year, the expert judging panels at the Wine Access Canadian Wine Awards work their way through close to 1,000 wines. "To gain the judges' confidence over a wide range of wines and to assemble enough points, and eventually medals, with such a tough group is an accomplishment that is without rival in the Canadian wine industry," says Anthony Gismondi, head judge and editor-in-chief of Wine Access magazine.  In what turned out to be the tightest race in nine years, Sandhill narrowly edged out Ontario's equally talented Tawse Winery.

Sandhill joins a short list of impressive Canadian wineries that have won the prestigious Winery of the Year award since the Wine Access Canadian Wine Awards began in 2000. Wine Access magazine will reveal the entire list of Top 20 performing Canadian wineries from this year's competition along with complete Canadian Wine Awards results in its December/January issue due out on newsstands December 7th. Full results will also be available at wineaccess.ca.
