Spain and Portugal pack a powerful punch right to the wallet.
That is, they consistantly provide exemplary value for money spent. We've been tasting many Spanish and Portuguese wines in advance of this month's Vancouver International Wine Festival, and have been reminded again of their quality, and exceptional value. This week we're bringing you our Top 10 Spanish Reds, and next week we'll send out our Top 10 Portuguese Reds, giving you 20 serious red wines for drinking now, and after a few years in the cellar.
This week our list is filled with authentic garnacha, potent tempranillo, graceful graciano, plus jovial bobal, muscular mencia, characterful carignan - plus a host of international varieties like cabernet sauvignon, merlot, and syrah that have found a forever home in Spain. While our top scoring Spanish wines at GOW, as elsewhere, tend to be top-heavy with Rioja and Ribera del Duero, we tried to give more broad a spectrum with our Top 10, showing various regions, grapes, styles, producers, and pricepoints.
