Over 95 per cent of all wine purchased in Canada retails for less than $25 and Wine Access Magazine is proud to announce that the hunt is on for the ultimate title - The Best Wine Under $25 In the Country.

"This first ever International Value Wine Awards (IVWA) is a competition aimed directly at the Canadian wine consumer," says Anthony Gismondi, the magazine's editor-in-chief. "We are dedicated to being part of this country's burgeoning wine culture and providing information on high-quality, affordable product is part of our mandate."

This inaugural International Value Wine Awards will be held in Calgary, Alberta, June 22 - 28, 2006 at the city's splendid new Hotel Arts. The week-long event complements Wine Access's already highly successful Canadian Wine Awards, held annually in September.
Any wine, domestic or imported, made 100% from grapes (minimum production 300 cases) that retails somewhere in Canada for $25 or less per 750ml bottle, is eligible.

All entries will be tasted blind and judged by members of the Wine Access tasting panel along with a select group of Canadian wine commentators who report regularly to the public on wine. Judging will be conducted according to varietal or style, rather than by region. In addition to the signature, The Best Wine Under $25 In the Country, the panel will award several "bests" based on country as well as category and varietal.

The results of the competition will be published in a special pullout edition of Wine Access in fall 2006 and made available for publication to other media outlets across the country. "The sales impact from being awarded the coveted title of The Best Wine Under $25 In the Country will be staggering," predicts Steve Thurlow, the magazine's senior editor.
