We had the opportunity to meet with California winemaker David Coventry of Talbott Vineyards at the 2019 Vancouver International Wine Festival.
In this short video, we ask the Monterey County native for an overview of the Monterey AVA and the current happenings at Talbott Vineyards. Talbott sits on some 500 acres located in the sub-region of Santa Lucia Highlands, near Monterey Bay. The winery first planted wines in 1972 and has won great acclaim for its Burgundian-style chardonnay and pinot noir. The Monterey AVA is about 160km long with roughly 16,000 hectares of vineyards. It's a large area home to many well-known wineries, one of several good reasons to rent a convertible and add a few days to a trip to San Francisco. After some excellent wine tasting, the renowned destinations of Big Sur, Pebble Beach, Carmel-by-the-Sea and Monterey Bay offer top notch everything from scenery, shopping, golf and dining.
