Anthony Gismondi on Wine

Lawrence Page, President of Saturna Island Family Estate Winery has announced the appointment of Daniel Lagnaz as winemaker.

Mr. Lagnaz brings to this position 35 years of experience in all facets of winemaking.  His experience has been gained in wineries in Switzerland, Spain, Australia and Canada. In Canada, Mr. Lagnaz served as head winemaker and general manager of operations and subsequently director, technical development of Mission Hill Family Estate Winery for twenty years.

Starting with the 2005 vintage at Saturna Island Family Estate Winery, Mr. Lagnaz will be responsible for the winemaking process. The island estate's vineyards are showing very well and harvest is scheduled for late September through October 2005.  

Mr. Page stated "Our family is particularly pleased to attract a winemaker of Mr. Lagnaz's talent and stature. Daniel's knowledge of Pinot varietals will serve Saturna well in the development of our wines given that our 65 acre vineyard is primarily planted with Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris. The 2005 vintage will be hand harvested to ensure crafting of the finest estate wines possible."

Saturna Island Family Estate Winery owns and operates a 78 acre vineyard and winery along with a bistro, wine and gift shop on one of British Columbia's scenic gulf islands. Saturna Island boasts a south-west facing vineyard with a unique mesoclimate that is ideal for the production of quality grape-growing. Founded in 1996, the 65 acres of mature vineyards are planted to Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Gewürztraminer and Merlot.
