Anthony Gismondi on Wine

Last week it was suggested to me that there is no price for wine today, that is you can pretty much charge what you want and raise few eyebrows.

New Krug Sparkling Pinot to Fetch $3000.00

Today I learned that Krug Champagne, or at least its owners LVMH, have a firm grasp of the concept. The Wine Spectator's Bruce Sanderson is reporting that Champagne Krug has been hiding away a specially aged single-vineyard champagne. The new wine, Clos d'Ambonnay 1995 is to sell for an estimated at $3,000 to $3,300 per bottle. The Clos d'Ambonnay is a blanc de noirs made entirely from pinot noir. It's expected to be available in the spring 2008. Only 3000 bottles were made. There is a bright side to this sad story, should the Canadian dollar stays where it is today, Clos d'Ambonnay will only cost Canucks $2913.00.
