Anthony Gismondi on Wine

Kendall-Jackson's Executive Chef Justin Wangler has created a special reserve wine and food tasting focusing on the winery's upper-tier Highland Estates and Stature wines.

Visitors to the Kendall-Jackson Wine Center in Santa Rosa can sample some of the newest vintages of these rare and vineyard-designated wines, paired with a delectable array of tasty food samples, all served tapa-style.

"There is certainly no shortage of food and wine tasting programs in wine country," says Wangler. "The new Kendall-Jackson reserve tasting, however, elevates the culinary experience bar for wine and food lovers by focusing on the terroir of the wine and the intense flavors of the food."

The tasting, which consists of four wines paired with four food samples, is perched at the edge of culinary creativity. Consider the pairing of Kendall-Jackson's Highland Estates 2003 "Camelot Highlands" Chardonnay. This creamy, well-balanced Chardonnay from Santa Barbara's Santa Maria Bench highlights the creaminess and earthy flavors of a fresh sweet corn panna cotta topped with Tobiko caviar.

The reserve wine and food pairing reflects the seasonal nature of the 2½-acre Kendall-Jackson organic garden where most of the ingredients are harvested, and will be offered daily throughout the year. The cost for four samples of wine and food prepared by Wangler and his Culinary Team is $18 per person.

The Kendall-Jackson Wine Center, located at 5007 Fulton Road in Santa Rosa, is easily accessed from Highway 101 by using the River Road (northbound) or Fulton Road (southbound) exits. The Wine Center is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information please call the Kendall-Jackson Wine Center at (707) 571-8100, or go to www.kj.com.
