Gallo Goes Barefoot

It wasn't all that long ago that BCLDB buyers were rejecting the wines of Barefoot Cellars because its cheeky labels and marketing implied people were having way too much fun drinking Barefoot...usually barefoot.

Gallo Goes Barefoot

Today comes news that one of the most conservative wine companies in the world has purchased Barefoot Cellars lock, stock and barrel.

As the press release reads - "The Gallo family is pleased to announce E. & J. Gallo Winery's acquisition of Grape Links, Inc., producers of Barefoot Cellars, from Michael Houlihan and Bonnie Harvey.   The transaction is effective immediately.

Joseph E. Gallo, E. & J. Gallo Winery Co-President and CEO, stated: "This is an exciting opportunity to expand our portfolio with the unique equities of the Barefoot Cellars brand and the marketing capabilities of Michael Houlihan and Bonnie Harvey, who will now consult with our company."

Michael Houlihan, Founder and former CEO of Grape Links, Inc commented: "Bonnie and I started on this adventure over 19 years ago and are very pleased to be working together with the Gallo family to continue to build the Barefoot Cellars brand.  They bring considerable resources to take Barefoot Cellars to the next level and they are very committed to the original ideas and concepts behind the Barefoot brand."

Hmmm...will Gina let her hair down, will the little Red Truck get a new set of tires, and will Gallo reps go barefoot? You never know in the new and strange world of winery acquisitions.
