BC $18.00 winery direct, VQA wine shops

The first riesling we have tasted from Golden Mile shouts more. Love the fresh, citrus lemon fruit aromas with just a hint of honey and flecks of mineral. Winemaker Michael Bartier uses two German yeasts, ferments the grapes very cold and tosses in a pinch of muscat Ottonel to lift the fruit in what is a very well made wine with texture, weight and a lip-smacking fresh fruit finish. Bravo

BC $59.99 winery direct and private wine shops

Warm baked apple, butter, nectarine, orange, mineral aromas. Fat, rich, ripe and sweet with good acidity but very unctuous. Citrus, dried apricot, mango, pear flavours. Intense, big style that is a bit too fat but has good fruit and acidity if a touch warm. Not quite as fine as the '04.

87 Nk'Mip Cellars Riesling 2005

Osoyoos, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, Canada

BC $15.99 winery direct

Friendly open aromatic nose with red apple, nectarine, honey, floral mineral aromas. Very clean, crisp and fresh on the palate but not a lot of riesling character this year. A bit sweet but balanced and as usual fun to sip.

Unfined and unfiltered.

87 Peller Estates Pinot Grigio Heritage Series 2005

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, Canada

BC $11.99 specialty listing

Peller's Heritage grigio tastes more like a gris than a grigio but it's medium to full weight structure and leesy, buttery, pear melon notes should have wide commercial appeal. It's warm (alcoholic) on the finish but not without style. Just do not expect a skinny Italian-style grigio. You can sip this solo. Love the price.

This is quite an oaky edition with smoky sweet vanilla cherry nose. On the palate it is dry and smooth with fairly supple tannins and cherry and tobacco fruit flavour. BC $0.00 TBR spring '07

Mineral, floral, green apple skin, light Vaseline, peach pit aromas. Very dry, round, crisp and fresh with mineral, lime rind, granny smith, green peach and mint flavours. 87 Thornhaven Pinot Noir Barrel Reserve 2005

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, Canada

BC $16.90 winery direct, VQA and private wine shops

A nice improvement over last year although it still has some way to go to develop a true pinot profile. Sweet oak and smoke lend an attractive upfront character to this red but the fruit component is low. More smoky oak and toast mark its smooth dusty oaky finish.

87 Tinhorn Creek Merlot 2003

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, Canada

BC $17.95 specialty listing, vqa and private wine shops

There's nice jump in quality with the 03 merlot. The mix of smoky oak tobacco leaf, mocha and red fruit is just right. The textures are even more textbook merlot and there's enough acidity and tannin to carry the day. Better than simple this is well made everyday spicy merlot at a very affordable price.

88 Wild Goose Stony Slope Riesling 2005

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, Canada

BC $15.95 Speculative - Peacock and Martin

Very floral, perfumed, peach, ripe apple nose. Crisp acidity but somewhat sweet entry with floral, red apple, peach and citrus flavours with a very floral finish. Good style if a bit sweet and on the heavier style. This is somewhat more akin to Alsace than the winery's normal Germanic style. Continued solid quality.
