Palacios Remondo La Montesa Crianza 2021
Rioja, SpainLa Montesa, made by famed winemaker Álvaro Palacios, comes from organically farmed vineyards on the east and southeast facing foothills of Monte Yerga near Alfaro in Rioja Oriental. The vineyard is dry farmed. Álvaro describes his wine as "flowing wide in the mouth and possessing the wild strength of the mountain from which the wine hails." For a mountain wine, I find it delicately approachable, with balance and finesse. The textures are silky, the red fruit vibrant, all with exotic notes of ripe peaches and baking spices. The blend is 92% garnacha with 8% local varieties.
