Foxtrot Luminous Chardonnay 2025
Naramata Bench, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaFoxtrot winemaker Jacqueline Kempf is bringing chardonnay back to the property in two styles: a barrel fermented label, and Luminous. This new expression speaks directly to the clay/loam soil structure of its North Naramata Road site. Luminous sees no oak, but instead it ferments in a porcelain egg, echoing an old European tradition. It leans mineral and, if I may say, is almost Chablis-like in texture and style. Whole bunches are pressed into the porcelain egg, where the wine rests for eight months. The lees gently bubble up and down inside the vessel, building a creamy texture and a citrus and pear white that sees no sulphur until bottling. Kempf is also working hard in the vineyard, dropping old wood to help her vines re-establish roots with site microbes and ensure their DNA ends up in her wines. A first release always has inherent value, but with this level of quality, it's a must buy. Only 82 cases were made.Tasted: 30 September 2026Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:| BC | $40.00 | 750ml | winery online/direct, select private retailers |
