On Seven The Pursuit Chardonnay 2023
Niagara Peninsula, Ontario, CanadaOn Seven is a relatively new boutique Niagara winery owned by passionate wine aficionados Vittorio & Sula De Stefano. The De Stefanos bought an abandoned 7 acre vineyard (hence the name) in 2009 in Four Mile Creek, and under the guidance of consultant viticulturist and founding winemaker Peter Gamble, prepped the site for 3 years before replanting organically in 2014. This is primarily Dijon clone 76, planted 2014, with a small percentage of grapes from their 2015 planting of Dijon clone 95, and the 2018 plantings of Dijon clone 96. This was whole cluster pressed and transferred to French oak barrels (25% new) for native fermentation and 20 months aging. The wine was coarsely filtered before bottling. Lush white peach, nectarine, and yellow apple fill a creamy palate, seasoned subtly by oak, and plumped with gentle lees. There's a lingering river stone freshness on the finish of this stylish wine, drinking now or with time ahead.
