Milagres Alvarinho by Quinta de Pedra 2021
Vinho Verde, Northern Portugal, PortugalQuinta da Pedra is a historic estate dating to the 17th century. It is located in the heart of Monção e Melgaço, a premier zone for Alvarinho and Vinho Verde. The vineyards are dry farmed on granite soils, and the granite gives the wine a wonderful mineral character. The colour is light yellow after a year in very old French barrels, with six months of lees stirring. The wine is then bottle aged for an additional 2-3 years before release. Milagres is a sophisticated expression of Alvarinho, starting with Atlantic coolness and a texture and complexity more reminiscent of Bourgogne white than of Portuguese. The palate is all citrus and saline, with bright acidity and a stony mineral finish.
