Domaine de Colette Tradition Morgon 2023
Morgon, Beaujolais Villages, Beaujolais, Burgundy, FranceThis domaine is new to me, but I'm impressed. Based in Lantignié and run by Jacky Gauthier and his son Pierre-Alexandre, the estate is organically farmed. This Morgon comes off 50 year old vines planted on schist, with fruit hand picked, sorted, and whole bunch fermented, then matured for eight months in concrete. It's a classic expression of the cru: structured and mineral, with sappy black cherry, raspberry, and spice. It's initially somewhat reserved, as Morgon can be, but it really finds its stride after a few hours and into the next day.
