Champagne Valentin Leflaive Grand Cru Oger 20 3.0 NV

Côte des Blancs, Champagne, FranceIf Leflaive sounds familiar, you're certainly correct, as the family has been growing and making wine in nearby Puligny-Montrachet since 1580. Olivier Leflaive began this new project in Champagne, named for his young son Valentin, in 2015. This is entirely from GC Oger, and sustainably farmed 55 year old vines facing south east, on clay and chalk. It was fermented in a mix of stainless and oak, based on year 2020 (the 20 in the title) with 10% reserve wines, before heading to bottle and 31 months sur lattes. My bottle was disgorged October 2023, with 3 g/L (the 3.0 on the label). Pouring a deeper lemon hue, this generous champagne opens with lemon curd and crisp green apple, with texturing crushed chalk from tip to lingering tail. There's an easy generosity, but with cut and shape, finishing with lingering salinity. Lovely restraint in this complete Oger.Tasted: 10 August 2026Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
