Champagne Bernard Lonclas Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut NV
Côte des Blancs, Champagne, FranceIn the 1960s, Bernard Lonclas relocated to the village of Bassuet, nestled on the southeastern edge of the Champagne region. At the time, the village’s Chardonnay vineyards primarily supplied fruit to the large Champagne houses. But Bernard saw untapped potential in the terroir of Coteaux Vitryats' outcropping of chalk, and he had the vision, and courage, to bottle under his own label in the late 1960s. His daughter Mathilde Lonclas, now works alongside him, tending to their chardonnay vines. This BdB is from old vines, bottled with near zero dosage. Crisp and racy, led by chalk, and followed closely with lemon peel, crunchy green apple, and kisses of anise, this streaks across the palate, cutting a suave, chalky shape through a pithy finish.
