Poggio al Tufo Rompicollo 2022

Tuscany, ItalyTommasi has 110+ years experience growing cabernet sauvignon in central Toscana, and that tradition continues here in Maremma, in Toscana's southwest corner. This 60/40 mix of sangiovese / cabernet sauvignon comes off the Pitigliano estate, with soils rich in calcium carbonate tufa, and remains the flagship of the estate. This is fermented in stainless before fermenting and aging 1 year in large 65hL Slavonian casks. The bright tart cherry, tomato leaf of the sangiovese is bolstered by a graphite structural framework, courtesy of the cabernet. The interplay between the two works well, with grippy cedar-hewn tannins, fresh acidity, and lingering roasted coffee on the finish. One for roast dinners.Tasted: 20 June 2026Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
