Bordeaux, FranceBordeaux clairet can often fall in no man's land, somewhere between a deep-coloured rosé and light red. Given that chillable reds are on trend – and deep-coloured rosés are not – you'd think they'd lean into the former. Well, this wine certainly does, showing a wild savouriness, with juicy, crunchy wild strawberry, red cherry, and raspberry, with a touch of floral perfume. It's more about the style than the varietal mix (60% cabernet franc and 40% merlot), with a real sense of purpose behind it. For those who think Bordeaux is not for them, this is worth the discovery. Bordeaux, FranceClairet occupies the middle ground between rosé and light red, traditionally offering deeper colour, more body, and greater food versatility than standard rosé. Deep coral in colour, with ripe cherry, raspberry and red plum joined by subtle spice and dried herbs. The palate is similar in flavour, with a touch of good bitterness, and is definitely fuller and more structured than a typical southern France rosé. It is for the dinner table or, at the very least, the picnic table, i.e. anywhere food is being served. Best presented lightly chilled with grilled chicken, sausages, or Mediterranean fare.Tasted: 27 June 2026Tasted by: Prices:
