Mullineux Old Vines White 2023
Swartland, Coastal Region, South AfricaOne of ZA's top champions and saviours of old vines, wife / husband Andrea (winemaker) and Chris (viticulturist) Mullineux are known for their wide range of terroir expressive wines. This white blend is sourced from schist, granite, and iron solis, and vines up to 68 years old. In 2023, the blend is 62% Chenin Blanc, 10% Semillon Gris, 13% Clairette Blanche, 8% Grenache Blanc, 5% Viognier, 2% Verdelho. Each parcel was oxidatively whole bunch pressed and native fermented, with a ferment lasting up to 10 weeks, and MLF if it wanted to. After 11 months in older French 500L barrels and 2 new 2000L foudre, it was racked, settled, blended, and bottled. Fuller bodied and waxy, with crystalline lemon, quince, crisp green apple, and pear skin lined with downy lees, and threaded with alluring reduction through a super long finish. A generous heft on the palate is countered with chenin's bright acidity, making this complexed white drinking smartly now, and with time ahead.Tasted: 22 May 2026Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:| BC | $67.00 | 750ml | private wine shops |
