Mullineux Jakkalsfontein Granite Syrah 2022
Swartland, Coastal Region, South AfricaOne of ZA's top champions and saviours of old vines, wife / husband Andrea (winemaker) and Chris (viticulturist) Mullineux are known for their wide range of terroir expressive wines. This series of wines looks at a single grape (Syrah) on a single soil type, in this case the granite slopes of the Paardeberg. Fruit from these low yielding bush vines was whole bunch, foot crushed, and native fermented in 500L French oak fermenters with 28 days skin contact, before being drained, pressed, and back in same containers (50% new) for 1 more year, followed by 10 months in 2000L foudre. Fragrant wild cherry, kirsch, dried cherry blossoms, cured meats work through the structured palate, framed with sticky tannins, dotted with flake salts, and lit with a granitic hum that streams along the lengthy, peppery finish. There's a great lift and energy to this fuller bodied red, drinking beautifully now and with time ahead.Tasted: 22 May 2026Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:| BC | $200.00 | 750ml | private wine stores |
