Mullineux Iron Kasteelsig Syrah 2022

Malmesbury, Swartland, Coastal Region, South AfricaOne of ZA's top champions and saviours of old vines, wife / husband Andrea (winemaker) and Chris (viticulturist) Mullineux are known for their wide range of terroir expressive wines. This series examines a single grape (Syrah) on a specific soil type, in this case the iron rich / koffieklip rolling hills surrounding Malmesbury. The organic grapes were foot stomped as whole clusters into open top 500L barrels for native ferment and 4 weeks of maceration, prior to racking and pressing off back to the same vessels for 1 year aging (50% new wood), and 10 more months resting in 2000L foudre. Alluring ferrous veins are woven throughout this structural, powerful red, with black cherry, wild blackberry, thorns and a rise of lofted acidity that streams this through the lingering saline finish. It's rare to see this level of power and finesse, and it will reward you with time in the cellar (if you can stop yourself from drinking now).Tasted: 22 May 2026Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
