De Martino Viejas Tinajas Muscat 2018

Itata Valley, ChileFrom their coastal Itata estate in Guarilihue, and its granite / quartz soils, this old vine Muscat of Alexandria had extended skin contact (6 months) in centuries-old clay tinajas before being transferred, tinajas cleaned, and then returned to rest there for an additional 6 months. Pouring a deep golden hue, this expressive wine is woven with cracked mustard seed, bergamot, ash, and gripped with finely rasped texture through the saline, bitter citrus finish. The VA is a bit too elevated for many here, but it remains a challenging, interesting, natural wine. Watch for the fresher 2020 on shelves now.Tasted: 29 May 2026Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
