Alkina Birdsong 2023
Barossa Valley, South Australia, AustraliaAlkina is a certified organic and biodynamic Barossa farm on the traditional lands of the Ngadjuri people. The founders honour and learn from the land's Indigenous history (Alkina is an indigenous girl's name meaning 'moon') through their 43 hectares of vines, with the eldest planted in the 1950s. This shiraz comes from certified organic and biodynamic vines rooted in clay, schist, sandstone, and limestone, planted back to the 1950s. Depending on lot, this was native fermented with 30-100% whole bunch in concrete and stainless and larger oak. Dark and dense with wild blackberry, medicinal cherry, and darts of kirsch and violets, the muscular, full bodied palate is wrapped with sticky tannins through to the bitter espresso finish. There's a lot to unpack here, and this needs time to unravel, either in the cellar or in your decanter now.Tasted: 22 May 2026Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:| BC | $67.00 | 750ml | private wine stores |
