Sadie Family Wines Rotsbank 2024

Swartland, Coastal Region, South AfricaEben Sadie is considered one of the great visionaries and preservationists among South African winemakers. He is outspoken about his obsession with terroir and making sure the Swartland region is recognized as a place to make exceptional, authentic and highly coveted wines. He founded Sadie Family Wines in 1999, after establishing his career in both South Africa and wineries across the world. The estate farms approximately 51 hectares, including 24 hectares of its own vineyards. Rotsbank (rock shelf) is 60+ year old chenin from a shallow, rocky vineyard on Paardeberg’s Aprilskloof, where vines dig deep into granite. After a whole bunch press and native ferment, this aged 12 months on lees in old foudres, bottled with minimal sulphur. Crystalline tangerine, lemon peel, quince skin, wild herbs, crushed stones streaks across the taut palate, levitating with buzzy energy, and leaving a long lingering wash of salinity in its wake. This is not about fruit, but entirely of place. Will be hard to leave this in your cellar, but if you can, you'll be rewarded.Tasted: 01 April 2026Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
