Villota Blanco 2021
Rioja Alavesa, Rioja, SpainVillota is a fourth generation family owned winery, established almost 100 years ago in Rioja Alavesa. They co-founded and supplied grapes to Contino, Rioja's first single estate winery with CVNE, before they decided to focus on their own name and brand in 2013. This Blanco blends Viura (85%), Garnacha Blanca (11%), Tempranillo Blanco (2%), and Malvasía (2%) from Laserna, and vines dating back to 1930, rooted in calcareous red clays. Destemmed grapes are fermented in stainless with no MLF, and the viura is transferred to barrique and puncheon for aging (20% new) with weekly bâtonnage. Wild herbs, white fig, meadow grass, crystalline citrus peel is woven throughout this textural white, with a subtle waxen underlay adding intrigue, and a lingering saline finish welcoming another glass. A fresh, fuller bodied white that can easily handle the dinner table. 7653 bottles produced.Tasted: 11 March 2026Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:| BC | $47.00 | 750ml | private wine stores |
