Rigour & Whimsy The Beast 2021

Okanagan Falls, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaRigour & Whimsy are a tiny garagiste, family-owned winery based in Okanagan Falls, sourcing vineyards across the Okanagan for their creative and adventuresome (and artfully labelled) portfolio, one that changes annually. Nicknamed The Beast in the cellar due to its distinctive and potent character, this blend of 75% riesling and 25% gewürztraminer came from God's Mountain vineyard in Okanagan Falls. All was picked on the same day, destemmed and fermented in a 300L stainless tank where it macerated on skins for 4 months. It was then basket pressed into older French puncheons where it rested 26 months. Pouring a shining golden hue, this is a dry and textural orange wine, with ample dusty crushed rocks, plus subtle hints of tangerine and crunchy Asian pear, and a riffing, grippy, bitter-edged texture which closes off with a snap. Quite extreme this vintage, with zero discernible fruit replaced by 100% riffing texture.Tasted: 16 February 2026Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
