Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaAt less than 1% alcohol, Sparkles faces the common challenges all non-alcoholic drinks encounter: delivering texture and some mid-palate weight with little or no sugar. That's what appeals most to those of us looking for a beverage that is, first and foremost, tasty. What I appreciate here is that they chose a sparkling wine over a still wine, where the bubbles can enhance the flavour and create the illusion of texture and weight. The use of aromatic gewürztraminer boosts the fruity, attractive palate. While it contains about 15 grams of residual sugar, the acidity seems to offset some of it, leaving a pleasant aftertaste. Expect notes of honeysuckle, lychee, rose petal, and citrus that cleanses the palate.
