FranceThe Desprat family has been making wines in Auvergne since 1885, and the family winery is now managed by the 5th generation, Pierre Desprat and his two daughters, Lea and Lucie. One of 10 volcanic AOP appellations in the world, they strive to highlight the rare terroirs of ash, lava and basaltic deposits in all of their wines. This blend of gamay and pinot noir was fermented and rested 1 year in French barrels. Gentle cherry, wild raspberry, scrubby resinous herbs is imbued with potent smokey stoniness which etches the medium palate, and lit with firm, salty acidity that calls out for food pairings (think grilled mushrooms or pork).
