Awatere Valley, Marlborough, South Island, New ZealandThe SJP vision for Kiwi sauvignon is less is more. It still has that fresh cut grapefruit on opening. The acidity is reined in, and there is a touch of sweetness that rounds out the palate and makes this more of a sipping sauvignon, something I wouldn't usually say about Marlborough sauvignon. A dash of canned jalapeño, nettle, and lemongrass throughout the finish speaks to its origin. The rich character makes it especially attractive with soy-based dishes.
