Altos Las Hormigas Organic Malbec Clasico 2023
Mendoza, ArgentinaA dream team of winemakers, Alberto Antonini, Pedro Parra, and Federico Gambetta, along with agronomist Victoria Maselli, is behind this carefully crafted Malbec that opens with intense plums and cherries streaked with licorice, desert scrub (jarilla), and a hint of orange. On the palate, it is silky smooth, with supple tannins, and it slides down effortlessly. Antonini has very light hands, and you can sense this wine is honestly what it is with very little intervention. The grapes are grown organically. In 2023, it was described as a vintage of extremes; however, the winery reported wines with great concentration in the mouth, verticality, and texture. The fruit comes from Mendoza vineyards set in Luján de Cuyo (80%) and Paraje Altamira in the Uco Valley (20%). The Malbec is harvested by hand and fermented wild in stainless steel tanks for 10 days. It was aged for 9 months in concrete vats with no oak aging. The alcohol content is a modest 13.9%.Tasted: 18 December 2025Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:| BC | $25.00 | 750ml | private wine stores |
