Wending Home Smith Vineyards Viognier 2021

Niagara Peninsula, Ontario, CanadaWending Home is a new Niagara family winery owned by Ying Feng and her husband, partnered with veteran Niagara winemaker and educator Ron Giesbrecht. Wending refers to the slow route to home, with added meaning in Cantonese (Wēn 问, Dīng 鼎) as illustrated by their traditional stamp. From 20 year old vines on Rick Smith's Niagara Lakeshore vineyard, this was fermented and aged in used 228L and 500L French barrels. This fuller white shows white peach, apricot, and pear blossom atop a creamy lees bed, with subtle wood spice seasoning and a bitter white blossom finish. Viognier's inherent lushness is tamped down some here, which may appeal to those who shy away from more exuberant models. While I appreciate the restraint, I'm missing some of the viognier-ness here. Try with citrus dressed shellfish or nectarine salads for best results.Tasted: 06 November 2025Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
