Wending Home Gewütztraminer 2023
Niagara Peninsula, Ontario, CanadaWending Home is a new Niagara family winery owned by Ying Feng and her husband, partnered with veteran Niagara winemaker and educator Ron Giesbrecht. Wending refers to the slow route to home, with added meaning in Cantonese (Wēn 问, Dīng 鼎) as illustrated by their traditional stamp. This estate gew was entirely fermented in stainless to preserve the grape's inherent aromatics. Honeysuckle, ripe peach, soap bubbles, and lime leaf are bedded with a layer of lees, and dusted with a sprinkling of ginger. The finish is brief, ending with a grapefruit twist. They've held the grape's flamboyance at bay, perhaps too much.
