Thistle and Week Knapsekêrel Cabernet Franc 2022
Polkadraai Hills, Stellenbosch, Coastal Region, South AfricaThistle and Weed is a collaboration between the Terblanche and Wiid families established in 2015, led by Etienne Terblanche (Viticulturist) and Stephanie Wiid (Winemaker). They seek out interesting vineyards of older vines around the Western Cape. This cab franc comes from 7 biodynamically farmed rows of Oudeberg vineyard, in Stellies' Polkadraai Hills. This saw 15% whole bunch in the native ferment, before being basket pressed into stainless for 8 months. Red vermouth, fleshy raspberry and dark plum pulse through the medium palate, scented with resinous branches and scrubby herbs, and wrapped with downy tannins. There's a gentle acidity that carries this through the peppery finish.
