The Fledge & Co. Praeteritus Bosstok Tinta Barroca 2021
Swartland, Coastal Region, South AfricaThe Fledge & Co is a small project from husband and wife winemaking duo Leon Coetzee and Margaux Nel (she an 8th generation winemaker). They're based in Klein Karoo's Calitzdorp, but source cool sites and growers around the Cape for their wines. This tinta barroca comes off bush vines planted in 1971 in decomposed Pardeberg granites over clay. It was native fermented in lagares before resting in old French barriques over 20 months, and then 4 months in stainless. Herbal cassis, thorny blackberry, and black plum work their way through this fuller red, with toothsome, powdery tannins, and tart, bright acidity.
