Stellenbosch, Coastal Region, South AfricaFrom one of South Africa's heritage producers, established in 1692 (!), Creative Block 5 is a Bordeaux blend of 46% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc, 6% Petit Verdot, and 4% Malbec. The fruit comes from Stellenbosch vines up to 20 years, on decomposed granite and clay. After ferment in stainless over 3 weeks, this continued maturing in 300L French oak (60% new) for 18 months before the final blend. Dark chocolate, plush cassis, and ripe cherry flood a full, juicy palate, scented with leather and cassis. Tannins are soft and sueded, well absorbed into the layered, silken fruit, and finishing with a kiss of baking spices.
