Sons of Sugarland Barbera 2023

Breedekloof, Breede River Valley, South AfricaReenen Borman is 2nd generation winemaker at his family's well known Boschkloof Wines in Stellenbosch, but also has his hands in numerous special side projects, like this. This barbera, rarely seen in SA, comes from a single vineyard in Goudini (a ward of Breedekloof) rooted in river pebbles and sandstone. This was whole bunch fermented and then aged in neutral 400L barrels for 11 months. Bright and juicy, with fragrant plum, herbal boysenberry, wild blueberry on a joyous palate, with near-negligible tannins, and a dusting of cracked pepper on the finish. A charmer, especially if the only barbera you know is the ripe, high test Italian versions.Tasted: 18 November 2025Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
