Patatsfontein Steen 2023
Western Cape, South AfricaReenen Borman is 2nd generation winemaker at his family's well known Boschkloof Wines in Stellenbosch, but also has his hands in numerous special side projects, like this. This steen (aka chenin blanc) comes from the Patatsfontein vineyard in the Keisie Valley, outside the town of Montagu, in the Karoo. It was whole bunch pressed with full lees to old French barriques, fully brown, for a native ferment over 2 weeks, and a partial MLF thereafter. The wine rests there 10 months until it is racked to stainless for natural settling, bottled without fining or filtration. Chiseled lemon, pear skin, meadow grass, tangerine pith, and buzzy crushed stones sail across the slender palate, with easy, buoyant acidity and a swell of energy that lingers on a mineral finish. Quite precise and nimble, this characterful steen, drinking beauty now and with time ahead.Tasted: 19 November 2025Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:| BC | $56.00 | 750ml | private wine stores |
