Morgenster The Reserve 2015

Stellenbosch, Coastal Region, South AfricaEstablished as a farm in 1711 in Stellenbosch's Somerset West, Morgenster is one of the area's classicist wine producers. In 1997 owner Giulio Bertand met Pierre Lurton of Cheval Blanc, and struck up a kinship which saw Lurton become a consultant winemaker and board member. The Reserve, their icon label, is a Bx blend of 43% cabernet sauvignon, 35% merlot, 15% cabernet franc, and 7% petit verdot. From the dry and warm 2015 vintage, this aged in French oak (60% new) for 18 months. A current release at 10 years on, this opens with earthy tobacco and dusty wood, carrying into dried cassis, mushrooms, and worn leather on the full, warming palate. Sueded tannins are fully absorbed into the fruit, lined with cedar, and finishing with baking spices. Drinking now, preferably with lamb chops and rosemary scented root veg.Tasted: 04 November 2025Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
