Idun Crépuscule Pinot Noir 2021

Elgin, Overberg, South AfricaIdun is a small, boutique winery run by the French-Danish Rousset family that resettled in the cool climate Elgin Valley. Idun is the Norse goddess of eternal life, fertility, and apples, which is fitting since Elgin has been long valued for its apple orchards. This pinot noir comes from a single vineyard at 300m, in stony iron rich clays. 30% of the grapes were whole bunch pressed before a 3 day maceration and native fermentation. The wine aged in French oak (30% new) for 11 months. Earthy carrot top, tomato leaf, sour cherry, and cat's pee fill the glass of this crimson / browning pinot, with a flicker of crushed florals along the tart palate. Tannins are negligible, and acidity is very high. The off-putting nose is hard to get past here, sadly. Will retaste a future vintage. 4435 bottles.Tasted: 17 November 2025Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
