Comando G Tumba del Rey Moro 2022

Sierra de Gredos, Madrid, SpainComando G is a partnership of minds, mates and winemakers Fernando García and Dani Landi. They were drawn to the near-forgotten high altitude old-vine vineyards of Sierra de Gredos, near Madrid, and began to gain the trust of the previous generation(s) who had tended to these wind-swept vines for the Co-ops. With time, came trust, and the chance to see these old vines into these in-demand wines. This plot, from a single vineyard in the area of Tumba del Rey Moro in Villanueva de Ávila, has been identified by the boys as a Grand Cru. Its biodynamically farmed vines of 60-70 years at 1100m are rooted in sandy, silty, quartzic granite. After a native ferment with 100% whole bunches, this saw 65 days of gentle maceration before resting 2 years in a 1600L foudre, bottled without fining or filtration. Alluring wildflowers, baked cherry, suede are scented with scrubby garrigue, and lofted with an easy mountainous acidity. Tannins are sticky, but long and supple, carrying this finessed, complexed red to a lingering stony finish. The warm 2022 is giving imprint here, but look forward to the fresher 2023s soon in market.Tasted: 22 November 2025Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
