Comando G La Breña 1er Cru 2022

Sierra de Gredos, Madrid, SpainComando G is a partnership of minds, mates and winemakers Fernando García and Dani Landi. They were drawn to the near-forgotten high altitude old-vine vineyards of Sierra de Gredos, near Madrid, and began to gain the trust of the previous generation(s) who had tended to these wind-swept vines for the Co-ops. With time, came trust, and the chance to see these old vines into these in-demand wines. La Breña is a plot in Villanueva de Ávila, at 1000m, in granite sands, identified by the boys as 1er Cru level. The 70 year old biodynamically farmed fruit was native fermented with 100% whole bunches over 67 days of maceration, and aged 14 months in large oak foudres. It was bottled without fining or filtration. From the warm 2022 vintage, this opens with generous wild blackberry, baked plum, boysenberry, scented with scrubby herbs, and wrapped with ample sticky tannins that pin the saline finish long on your tongue. There's a lot going on here, and would be lovely to see in a brighter, fresher vintage (2023!). 3568 bottles.Tasted: 22 November 2025Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
