Rust Wine Co Chardonnay 2023
Okanagan Falls, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaIn 2023, Rust made a barrel fermented Chardonnay in the style some refer to as the Burgundian black style. It's a procedure that exposes the must, juice skins, and seeds to large amounts of oxygen for a few hours before fermentation begins. Black Chard isn't an orange wine because the period of skin contact lasts only a few hours rather than weeks, and it occurs only before fermentation begins. The black or dark brown juice eventually turns clear, and you have a unique chardonnay that you might say is vaccinated against premature oxidation. It is blossoming in the glass as I taste it, pitching soft textures, honied apple, and an appetizing nutty complex finish.
