Fontanafredda Derthona 2023

Piedmont, ItalyDerthona is the ancient Roman name for Tortona. Timorasso is a native grape to the Colli Tortonesi DOC, a stretch of hills (colli) flanking the town of Tortona, 60 miles east of Barolo and the Langhe hills. In 2000, the Consorzio of Timorasso trademarked Derthona as their Timorasso, paying homage to its historic territory of origin for this grape variety. Many locals considered it to be the white wine of Barolo due to its exceptional aging potential. I liken it a bit to sémillon, not by taste, but rather its ability to entice when young, and with extended bottle age. Look for a deep, straw-yellow colour, an aromatic, exotic fruit nose that persists through the palate with a nutty, mineral finish. As it ages, it will undoubtedly gain weight and complexity, necessitating richer menu items. Delicious stuff for the price.Tasted: 30 October 2025Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
