Domaine Amelie & Charles Sparr Cerisier en Fleurs 2023
Alsace, FranceSparr is a very well known name in Alsace, with Charles Sparr the 12th generation vigneron, and his partner, Amelie, hailing from the highly regarded Barmès Buecher winemaking clan. They began their own domaine in 2017 with a few small biodynamic parcels. This blend of 50% gewürztraminer, 40% pinot blanc, and 10% riesling comes from parcels around the village of Wettolsheim, on primarily limestone soils. It was native fermented in stainless, where it remains until bottling, following the lunar calendar. Nimble and bright, this dry slight white skips across the palate with a trail of white peach, lemongrass, lime pith and peel, white grapefruit, and rose petal in its buzzy wake. This has all of the aromatic intrigue one admires in Alsace without all of the rich weight.
