Blasted Church Small Blessing Petit Verdot Syrah 2023
Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaAnother sizable wine, but the addition of syrah and a younger vintage leaves this red more vibrant on the palate. This time, the nose is meatier and somewhat more aromatic with blue and black fruit underneath. The palate features ripe cherries alongside some meaty notes, rich sticky tannins, and hints of baking chocolate and coffee. The PV comes from the warm but not overly hot Lloyd Vineyard on the West Bench of Osoyoos, and the syrah was grown at Knollvine Vineyard on the Skaha Bench. Both lots were hand harvested separately and then destemmed into a clay amphora for fermentation and extended skin contact of 90 days. After the three month maceration, the amphora was drained and pressed into a neutral French oak hogshead to complete malolactic fermentation and to age on fine lees.
