Averill Creek Vineyard Pinot Noir Barrel Thirty Six 2021

Cowichan Valley, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, CanadaThe '21 Barrel 36 has been winemaker Brent Rowland's favourite wine since he joined Averill Creek in 2018. It was an excellent vintage on Vancouver Island, thanks to a lengthy cool fall ideally suited to pinot noir. The magic lies in full phenolic ripeness at 12.5% alcohol. Elegance and flavour create a striking combination. In pursuit of a Grand Cru, Rowland set aside one new 600L demi muid barrel and used the Grand Cuvée approach throughout its élevage. It's a blend of clones 667, 777, and 115, all fermented with 100% whole bunches and wild yeast, aged for 28 months in the same barrel on primary lees without racking. The result is island freshness combined with power and finesse, thanks to a deep, penetrating flavour profile. Drink now or cellar, this as a special bottle.
